We Can't Stay Underground Forever
We can’t stay underground forever
I can’t lie, the whole idea of having a website is pretty daunting to me. I know next to nothing about website design, but after trouble-shooting SquareSpace, I think I have it mostly figured out.
I also always thought the idea of having a website was corny. Did I really need to communicate like this to market, recruit, and retain athletes? As it turns out, yes. At least, that’s what I think the next step is.
I’m writing this before it goes public to make sure the blog feature works, but in the future, I hope to use this to update on competitions, training situations, etc. While word of mouth and 50,000 text messages used to suffice, this could be a really useful tool. I guess we’ll see how it goes.
In order to get something you’ve never got, you gotta do things you’ve never done. In this case, that means buying a domain, setting up a generic website, and doing all of the professional things that let people know you’re a serious, legitimate wrestling club… Trying to navigate Instagram, building a Facebook page, creating flyers to send to coaches, etc. It all adds up.
As a club that’s generally been word-of-mouth marketed and low-key, it’ll be a change. I look at how some of these other major clubs that seem to be having success on the national and international stage, and they’re doing this. 2011 Cody Buchanan would call me a sell-out… Maybe this is selling out… But if our mission and goals point to high levels of success on national and international stages, we can’t stay underground forever.
