GWC Spring/Summer Update
I’ve done an outstanding job keeping this blog up. I figured this was the best space to get a bunch of info out to those who are interested/concerned, without cluttering others’ feeds with something they feel is nonsensical.
First, public health is the most important concern, but my heart goes out to all of the athletes across levels and events that will not have a culminating end of their season. Wrestlers were AT THE VENUE for D3 Nationals and told it was cancelled. I can’t imagine. I continually remind our wrestlers that nothing’s promised in this world. Absolutely devastating. I’m thinking about the competitors.
Secondly, many are probably wondering where this situation leaves our club season (originally set to begin March 17th & 19th). MN/USA Board of Directors met last night and have decided to suspend Regional/State Training Sites (Augsburg and RCTC Mondays most relevant to us) until Wed April 1st. All Open Tournaments are also suspended until then. RCTC Mondays will heavily-depend on when the college opens up to students and such, to continue. They have also recommended that charter clubs like us do not hold practice. They will meet again on March 30th to discuss where to go from there, or if they feel it is OK to move forward.
This leaves us at a standstill on what was supposed to be a Kick-Off to our season at Shakopee’s MN/USA Freestyle/Greco Training Combine which is now obviously cancelled. In a perfect world, we’re wrestling April 2nd at Chatfield, but we have to be understanding and abiding of what they and Stewartville see as best for their students and communities in the coming weeks.
I know my life isn’t the same without wrestling in it. I just got off a 2-week “break” and felt ready to dive into the Olympic Styles. I hate to give you the same line as every other politician and public figure, but the only way I can describe it is “The situation is fluid, and we will continue to communicate the future plans, going forward”.
I genuinely wish all good health and hope that we can take care of this pandemic in a way that allows us to move forward sooner rather than later. To stay up to date, I ask that you follow the Twitter and Facebook pages (@Guerrilla_WC) not as a way to gain followers, but as a way to communicate with more efficiency.
